# 3 - BILL  BESANCON  ( C )
SR - DEF
Bill is truly representative of an outstanding senior class of 2001. This is his third year as a varsity player. He is the rock upon which the defense in the last two years has been built. He has been asked to not only keep the score for the opponents low (like zero) but also asked to start and finish scoring opportunities on the offensive end. Bill Besancon, #3 has been a leader on this team and will be missed. His shoes will be a major spot to fill next year

JALEI   JESTER
SR
Regina and Jalei are the people who don’t ever hear the crowd cheering for them. They might hear someone yelling at them if they don’t move fast enough. Their names will not appear in the newspaper but they are a major part of this team and their time and dedication needs to be recognized.

The first person we are recognizing is Regina Warren. This is her second year as a manager for the MHS team.

The second person was unable to be with us tonight due to a choir commitment but Jalei Jester was an integral part of the team this year.

Mark Dornan
From sidelines to front & center
Senior grew up watching Martin soccer
12/29/2001
By MARK GOODSON / The Dallas Morning News

Seven years ago, Martin soccer coach Chris Naughton noticed a redheaded elementary school student watching from the sidelines during a soccer camp. It was an image that stuck with Naughton.

Today, Mark Dornan is no longer on the sidelines. He is one of the senior leaders on a veteran Martin soccer team that is expected to make a run in the playoffs. "I've known Mark for a while," Naughton said. "He would always come to camps with his brother, Drew, and was over there like a little puppy wanting to play."
Naughton encouraged Drew Dornan to bring his little brother to both morning and afternoon sessions.
"He'd come and stay all day," Naughton said. Dornan has played soccer since he was 5. He also loves football. He accepts the challenges of both. But when January rolls around, it's soccer time for the youngest of three brothers who have grown up playing sports at Martin. "Yeah, I'm the last one," Dornan said.
Naughton knows exactly what he'll get from Dornan this season. "He's got a lot of heart," Naughton said. "He's a great defender." Dornan usually marks the opponents' toughest player. Last year, he didn't allow the player he was guarding to score in any game. Martin, which went 15-6-2 last season before losing in the area round to Flower Mound Marcus, has a strong core in the middle of its lineup. Naughton expects big things. So does Dornan, who is set on getting the Warriors back to the state tournament. He helped the team reach the state semifinals as a sophomore. Naughton has had some strong family ties on his teams in his six seasons as head coach.

"For the first time in seven years, I won't have a Besancon on the team, but I still have a Dornan," Naughton said of the brother duo of John and Bill Besancon. "Those are two special families that have meant a lot to this program."

So this season, Dornan plans to help his team to the level it has learned to enjoy under Naughton.
"I love playing for coach Naughton," Dornan said. "He really puts together some good talks for us. He makes you want to play."

Dornan enters the season a little banged up after a physical football season. After starting at quarterback as a junior, he switched to free safety for the first time since junior high.
But that's the kind of player and teammate Dornan is. He'll do all he can to help his team. This soccer season, that means cutting off opponents' attackers. It's a style he learned watching from the sidelines.
