Martin JV Black 3 vs Sam Houston 1
Saturday 3/13/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors Win 3-1. Warriors played their final game of the season against Sam Houston. The game was a difficult and hard one. Sam Houston proved to be an uncomfortable team not so well organized but rather hard to handle. Our team stayed busy from the beginning probing the opponent's weaknesses.
We dominated the game and had at least 4 clear scoring opportunities but we were unable to capitalize on them. Sam Houston took advantage of our misfortune and scored first. The first half finished 1-0 on Sam's favor.
The second half started and finally on a play initiated by Alex Ramirez and Derek Torres and after a few rebounds inside the penalty area, the ball ricochet finding Jeremy Sparks: Jeremy took a shot and defeated the goalie to tie the score. We kept the pressure on and a few minutes later, Chima Onyebuchi made a good play taking the ball down and to the touchline crossing a ball to a closing Derek Torres inside the penalty area. Derek controlled the ball and shot scoring the go ahead goal.
That was pretty much it for Sam Houston, with a controlled midfield and continuously creating opportunities, the third and final goal came from a play again from Chima Onyebuchi crossing the ball this time to Nelson Lazo. Nelson scored the third and final goal of the game and the season.
The season sadly has come to an end way to soon. Our team played well throughout the season. Congratulations to all our players and coaches for a good enjoyable season.
Thank you Warriors.

Martin JV Black 2 vs Lamar 0
Thursday 3/11/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors Win 2-0. Warriors travel to UTA to face an undefeated Lamar team. The game was important and a must win if we wanted to win district. The game was well played from both sides; with our team playing a bit better organized and controlled game. Once again our midfield and defensive end had a good control of the game wearing down the opponents defensive position. We opened the score on a PK taken by Derek Torres. The PK was the result of a handball inside the penalty area on a crossed ball from Chima Onyebuchi.
The second score came from Derek Torres taking a hard shot to the net, the ball hit the crossbar and Derek following his own shot took the rebound and shot again this time successfully putting the ball in the back of the net. As it became apparent Lamar was about to lose their undefeated status the game turned a bit dirty and disorganized. The game came to a conclusion with the Warriors win and keeping our title hopes alive. Good game warriors.

Martin JV Black 5 vs Bowie 0
Saturday 3/06/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors Win 5-0. Warriors continued their winning campaign and won big against Bowie. It was a good game basically controlled in the midfield and well supported by the defensive backs. This combination allowed our team to keep our forwards busy with scoring opportunities.
Our first goal came from a combination that included Jordan Kaylor's pass to Michael Nutt and a one touch to Chima Onyebuchi. Chima took a shot that could not be controlled by the goalie leaving the ball at Adam Martinez's feet to be taped inside the goal.
Our second score came once again, from an intersected ball and a good controlled pass by Jordan Kaylor. A pass was made to Derek Torres on the topside of the penalty area; Derek controlled and sat the ball taking a wicked shot to the upper left corner of the frame defeating the goalie.
Our third goal came from Derek Torres on a direct kick. Derek took a nice hard and well-placed shot across the goalie's body.
The fourth goal came on a play initiated by Mathew Pereda, Mathew challenged the defensive end and won a ball passing the ball back to Nelson Lazo, Nelson seeing the goalie a bit out of his area, floated a ball over the goalie's head scoring a nice goal.
Finally, after a corner kick taken by Alex Ramirez, the ball rebounded back to Alex whom took a hard shot to the net, a defender from Bowie attempted unsuccessfully to clear the ball hitting Michael Nutt and deflecting the ball into the goal.
Our team dominated the game from start to end and finished with a well-deserved win. Way to go warriors!

Martin JV Black 2 Allen 1
Saturday 2/28/04 12:00 PM @ Allen By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors Win 2-1. Coming out of a couple of not so good games, our team traveled north to Allen. I would venture to say we faced possibly the hardest team to date. Allen turned out to be a disciplined, well organized and why not pushy team. If we add the fact that we were playing on their turf, the travel time and the “extra help” they received, the game was very difficult from the start. A lot of struggle took place in the midfield, lots of unnecessary pushing and extra curriculum activity was allowed by the officials. This behavior was somehow allowed more on their favor than in ours. With only a minute left on the first half, Allen was able to score on a good play.
The second half was just as hard as the first. Allen, feeling they had the game at hand, started to play the clock, taking their time in the restarts and generally delaying the game. This proved to be a mistake at the end. They had just a couple of penetrations into our defending third. Our team on the other hand, controlled the tempo of the game and in the 13', Derek Torres received a ball from Alex Ramirez, Derek gave a nice through ball on the right side to a running Chima Onyebuchi, Chima brought the ball to the touchline, controlling it and sending a service to the center of the penalty area. Jeremy Sparks closing on the play was there to take advantage of the crossed ball and scored the tying goal. With renewed confidence our team continued playing and developing new opportunities. On the 30', Nelson Lazo controlled a ball in the midfield, giving Derek Torres a ball on the left side inside of their defending third. Allen's defender played the ball with a little to much confidence and allowed a hard challenging Derek to steal the ball from him. Derek brought the ball under control, and crossed it to Adam Martinez. Adam took a shot and defeated the goalie for the going ahead goal.
Allen tried unsuccessfully to come back into the game. We had a couple of more opportunities to score and finally the game came to a conclusion. Our defense lead by our goalies played well and handled the opponent's attacks maintaining their posture allowing the game to be controlled. At the end, our team came back home with a, well-fought, well-deserved coming from behind win.
Way to go Warriors.

Martin JV Black 0 Sam Houston 1
Thursday 2/19/04 7:30 PM @ Martin By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors fall 0-1. Our team lost against a very uncomfortable opponent. In general terms our team had a really hard time trying to build any kind of offense. Individually we had a few consistent plays and attempts but we were unable to put together any type of combination plays. Defensively, although solid, we couldn't synchronize with our midfield. To make matters worst, we gave up a PK due to an unintentional handball inside our penalty area. This PK resulted in the score that made the final difference in the game. It was evident, the couple of games cancelled due to weather, adversely affected our team, which was developing good rhythm. We are confident, our players will be able to regain their poise and return to the winning column soon.

Martin JV Black 8 Seguin HS 0
Saturday 2/07/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors win again !!! 8 - 0. Once again our team played well and with composure. Our team dominated the game from start to finish and was seldom challenged. For the few times our defense was pressured, our defenders solve the situations with ease. Our midfield took control of the game early and did not let go for the rest of the game. This allowed our forwards to take advantage of the many scoring opportunities we had.
Our first goal came at the 1' of the first half. Derek Torres made an attack on the right corner crossing a nice ball into the penalty area, after a few rebounds, Adam Martinez was able to push the ball in the back of the net.
Three minutes went by and at the 4' Ryan Hanlan controlled a ball in the midfield making a great through pass to Nelson Lazo whom was fouled inside the penalty area, leaving the referee no other choice but to call a PK. Derek Torres, took the PK and put the ball low to the left of the keeper.
At the 17' again Ryan Hanlan and Nelson Lazo combined to develop a play inside the penalty area, this time Nelson cross the ball to the center, the goalie's effort to stop the ball were in vain and the ball found Adam Martinez, scoring the third goal of the game. Our forth goal came in the 23', Reice Raudry intercepted a pass, controlling the ball and moving forward, Reice made a pass to Ryan Hanlan on the left site, Ryan after eluding a defender, made a great pass to Nelson Lazo Nelson controlled the ball and made a nice shot to the left of the keeper.
With 3 minutes left in the first half, Alex Ramirez won a ball in the midfield, shuck a couple of defenders moving inside the penalty area, the last defender came up to pressure on Alex whom made a pass to a well positioned and under no pressure Michael Nutt, Michael took a left shot scoring our fifth goal.Very good first half from our team, or left side of the field played well continuously having good combinations and plays.
The team had a good scare after Derek Torres went down with what looked from a distance like a knee or ankle injury. Fortunately for Derek and the team, he suffered only deep bruise on the upper part of his left knee. We wish him a prompt recovery.
With start of the second half, the rhythm of the game became a bit slower. As our team did in the first half, with only one minute into the complementary period, Ryan Hanlan on the left attacking flank threw the ball in to Nelson Lazo, Nelson controlled and dribble inside the penalty area, using great foot work, Nelson shook the defender, crossing the ball in the center to Kyle Adam, Kyle was tripped and a PK was given. Jeremy Sparks took the penalty kick scoring number six. Our 7th goal came at the 8', Kyle Adam won a ball in the middle, dribbled up and passed to ball to Adam Martinez, Adam then chipped the over the goalie's head nice goal and execution. Our last goal came out of a set play from a corner kick. Nelson Lazo, took the corner kick and floated the ball nicely into the center of the penalty area, Kyle Adam jumped and headed the ball good play to close a good played game.
We finished the game just as we started it, controlling the middle and attacking both sides with good ball control and taking advantage of the scoring opportunities. Keep it up Warriors.

Martin JV Black 6 vs Arlington HS 0
Saturday 1/31/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors WON!! 6 - 0 against Arlington HS. Our team came to play and well they played. In general our team dominated the game. Midfield controlled the pace of the game and was well supported by our defense. We had plenty of scoring opportunities and this time we were able to finish some of them. Our first scoring opportunity came at the 4' in the game when a PK was awarded due to a handball inside the penalty area. Derek Torres took the PK; unfortunately his kick was wide to the keeper's right.
Our team went right back to work and in the 7' of the 1st half a direct kick about 20 yards out was awarded. Alex Ramirez sat the ball and took a nicely curved, well placed kick. The ball cleared the defensive wall and found the upper right corner of the keeper. Nice direct kick execution. After this initial goal, the team continued working with confidence. At the 12', Brian Cameron put the ball in play with a throw in to Derek Torres, Derek placed a good ball to the center of the scoring area and after a couple of rebounds, an alert Ryan Hanlan was able to push the ball in for our second goal. On similar play the combination Brian Cameron, Derek Torres paid dividends again; this time the ball was played inside the scoring area finding Jeremy Sparks. Jeremy controlled the ball well and scored giving the team a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The game resumed, with the second half not being different than the first. At the 11' of the 2nd half, Ryan Hanlan controlled the ball in the midfield, giving a pass to a supporting Derek Torres; Derek controlled the ball and gave a great through ball to Adam Martinez. Adam controlled the ball, took a shot and defeated the Arlington's keeper once again. Seven minutes later at the 18' Jordan Kaylor, whom by the way had a tremendous game controlling the defensive area, anticipated an opponents pass, intercepted the ball and after eluding a couple of players made a great through ball pass to Dex Norman, Dex controlled the ball inside the penalty area, lured the goalie to his feet an after a great cut gave Derek Torres a great pass allowing him to just push the ball into an empty net. Great play all around. Finally, at the 26' of the period, Dex Norman won a throw in ball around the penalty area, causing the ball to rebound in the direction of Jeremy Parks; Jeremy took a chance and shot the ball surprising the goalie out of position, scoring our 6th and final goal.
Let's do it again warriors.

Martin JV Black 1 vs The Colony 2
Tuesday 1/27/04 By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors lose 1-2 against The Colony. Warriors JV Black traveled north to The Colony for our final non-district game. Game time was reduced to 20 minutes halves due to our team's late arrival. This time traffic was the culprit. We started the game without the proper warm up and a bit in a hurry. The game was played with enthusiasm but not a lot of organization. Both teams seemed to have a hard time trying to get into the game. This made for a kick, run and push type of game. Neither team was able to generate many scoring opportunities. Colony scored a header on the 8' of the 1st half, on a fly ball that crossed the penalty area finding their forward. They scored again in the 7' of the 2nd half, this time from a corner kick.
By the middle of the second half, it seemed our players were able to find some rhythm. Jordan Kaylor played well controlling the defensive center. His presence in the center, allowed our midfield to build a few good plays and attacks. With about a minute left in the match, Derek Torres received an inbound ball from a throw in close to the corner kick area, after evading a defender; Derek placed a good pass into the penalty area to a moving Alex Ramirez. After controlling the ball and eluding a defender, Alex took a hard shot across his body to the goal. Although the keeper was able to graze the ball with his hand, it was not enough to stop the shot, and we scored our only goal. The game ended a few seconds later with a 1-2 loss.

Martin JV Black 1 vs North Side 1
Tuesday 1/20/04 6:00 PM @ Martin HS
By: Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors tie against North Side 1 - 1. Our team played on a cold Tuesday night. The game started slow with both teams probing and trying to find each other's weaknesses. Play was confined most of the time to the midfield and at times became rough. Both teams fought for possession and developed a few scoring opportunities. The referee in charged allowed the game to become a little bit on the dirty side and missed a few clear fouls that should have been called.
Our team came out in the second half with confidence and composure. After a few minutes, we started dominating the midfield building some good plays, feeding the ball into the open space, creating a couple of good scoring opportunities. At about the 10' in the half, a penalty kick was called in our favor due to an obvious shirt pull into the penalty area. Derek Torres was chosen to take the PK. Derek made it look easy by kicking the ball low; close the post on the goalie left side.
The goal seemed to motivate our players as they continued to handle the midfield well, maintaining the pressure and keeping the ball on the opponent's side. Goalie Danny McLaughlin and his defensive backs Michael Arnold, Jordan Kaylor, Reice Raudry Brian Cameron had a very good game containing the opponent's advances and denying the opponent's scoring opportunities. However, lady bad luck showed up again. At the 25' mark, a loose ball found a forward from the opposite team inside our penalty area and he took a shot away from Danny to tie the game.
Our team went right back to work and in a nice control play in the midfield between Alex Ramirez and Derek Torres; the ball was nicely fed into space to Ryan Hanlan. Without hesitation Ryan took a shot clearing the defenders, defeating the goalie.......yet the ball hit the cross bar. Missed by a couple of inches. Final whistle came ending the game with a tie.
Good game warriors.

2004 Juan Seguin Tournament
By Juan J. Ramirez
Game 3 Martin JV Black 0 vs JJ Pierce 2 Friday 1/16/04
Weather contributed to a not so fortunate tournament outing. Our team played hard with very limited results. On an up note, our players had fun and seem to enjoy diving in the water. Nobody contracted pneumonia nor was hurt. The comment of the day was: “Even though is wet and cold it is better than being in class”. Leave to our teenagers.
Game #2 Martin JV Black 0 vs Summit 6 Friday 1/16/04
Game #1 Martin JV Black 1 vs Waxahachie 1 Thursday 1/15/04
Warriors tie against Waxahachie 1 - 1. Our team travel to UTA to play Waxahachie on a cold, misty, wet night. It took our players a few minutes to adjust to the wet slippery surface of the UTA stadium. Our team scored first at the 4' of the first half. Ryan Hanlan, pressured the opponents defense causing the ball to rebound in the direction of Alex Ramirez. Alex Ramirez took advantage of the unbalance defense taking a long distance shot from about 25 yards out. The ball traveled hard and found the upper left corner of the net. Overall a very nice, hard play and shot.
Waxahachie tied the game 14' minutes in to the first half. Once again the ball became lose around our goal area and they scored on an unfortunate rebound for us. Both teams continued working hard moving the ball into each other defensive areas and having about equal opportunities to score.
The second half of this game can be summarized as entertaining. Our team developed a few well put together combination plays in the midfield and forward areas. Both of our goalies Danny McLaughlin and Dex Norman had a couple of good saves each, keeping our team in the game. Our defense was challenged hard a couple of times and responded well. Michael Arnold and Brian Cameron showed good poise and “speed” when needed.

Martin JV Black vs. Keller Tuesday 1/13/04 6:00 PM @ Keller Middle School
By Juan J. Ramirez
Warriors fall 0-3 against Keller. Our team traveled north to Keller MS for a friendly game against Keller HS. Our boys started this game a bit slow, yet were able to control the game for the first 15 minutes. As they tried to maintain control of the midfield, they created various scoring opportunities from Derek Torres, Ryan Hanlan, Adam Martinez and Alex Ramirez. Unfortunately we were not able to capitalize in any of them. As the first half continued, Keller also developed some scoring opportunities and in the 31' they scored their first goal on a corner kick set play.
During the second half, the struggle to dominate the midfield continued. Once again we had a couple of clear scoring opportunities but continue to have no luck in putting the ball in the back of the net. Keller however, again on a corner kick set play, was able to score their second goal at the 10' of the second half.
With a 2-0 advantage, Keller team relaxed and played an well-organized and strong defensive game for the remaining of the game. Finally at the 34' minute Keller scored their third goal on a good shot from outside the goal area.
In summary, a though loss considering the good scoring opportunities we had and the hard work displayed by our defense. I am sure our players will work on this area and improve by the time district games come around. Keep your head up and continue working hard. Go Warriors.

2004 RL Turner Tournament Game Summaries
By Juan J. Ramirez
Game 1 Martin JV Black 1 vs. South Grand Prairie (SGP) 2 Friday 1/9/04 8:00 PM @ Carrolton
This game was our first official game of this season. You could summarize this game as “Total domination” and “Total lack of fortune”. We played most of this game on the opponent's side, creating plenty of opportunities and shots at goal. SGP crossed over to our side only sporadically and without much organization. Our defense handled the opponent's incursions with ease and poise. Midfield worked hard controlling the game and building opportunities. Forwards were busy attempting to score and playing hard.
We were finally successful at scoring our first goal at the 13' of the second half. Ryan Hanlan scored after a good pass from Derek Torres. Unfortunately, the other team got lucky on a corner kick and after a couple of rebounds inside our penalty area, they were able to push the ball in and tie the game. To make matters worse, a couple of minutes later, they capitalized on a non-existent PK given by the referee. Final score was 1-2. The score does not reflect the domination and good play our team demonstrated. Our team looked good, showing a lot of promise. With a little time and hard work, this team will be a good one. Good game Warriors!

Game 2 Martin JV Black vs. Frisco Central Saturday 1/10/04 11:30 AM @ Carrolton.
Our second game of this tournament got off to a rocky start. After having some bus trouble, our team arrived to the field with just about enough time to get on the field by the starting whistle. All this excitement and the lack of proper warm up caused a very shaky start and a hard first half of the game. Our team struggled a little to find its rhythm. Our defense and midfield were tested and had to work hard to stay afloat. Frisco scored first at the 14' of the first half.
By the time the second half came around and after a good talk from our coach, our team came out and played solid, once again creating plenty of opportunities to score, dominating the midfield and with good organization. We tied the score in the 7' of the second half with a goal by Adam Martinez, after a good combination play in the midfield by Alex Ramirez and Derek Torres. Although we dominated the second half we could only score one goal. Overall a good hard played game.

Game 3 Martin JV Black vs. Frisco HS Saturday 1/10/04 4:45 PM @ Carrolton.
This was our third and last game of this tournament. Both teams took the field ready to play. These two teams were very evenly matched. Game was a continuos back and forth, both teams playing well and organized. At times the game became a little bit rough and referees missed a couple of calls, such as the one that created Frisco's goal on clear off side position. First half finished 1 -0 on Frisco's favor.
Our team played better the second half, at times dominating the game disregarding the punishing physical plays at times allowed by the referees. Our players displayed a lot of heart and toughness. Around the 31' of the second half, Chima Onyebuchi after a hard charge from an opponent gave a through ball to Ryan Hanlan who then made a great pass to Derek Torres to score the tying goal with just a couple of minutes left in the game.
A well deserved result to a very hard, demanding and physical game.
Good job Warriors.
